Baby Food

There are so many ways to introduce solids to your baby. Baby led weaning seems to be especially popular at the moment which I really liked the idea of but when it got down to the nitty gritty, I just didn’t have the time to prep regular intervals of food for the little guy to trial.

What we ended up doing was finding organic purees and starting on that before integrating finger foods that he could try. We’re now at chunky puree, he’s great with his finger foods and we are slowly integrating bits of our food as and when.

Feeding your baby

IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

Just wanted to make sure that got across. Whether you breastfeed, formula feed, feed them puree, let them lead the weaning, raise them vegan, raise them as carnivores…whatever man, as long as they are fed and happy right?

Different flavours and textures open up a whole new world for little mouths and its no wonder they hate some things one day and think they’re great the next!

Similar to nappies, we tried all sorts of brands of food including Heinz, Mamia, Lupilu, Little Ones , Piccolo and Ella’s kitchen.

Our top two are definitely Piccolo and Ella’s Kitchen.

Piccolo has great vegetable and fruit mixes that have helped transition Alex from being a fruit fly to enjoying his veggies just as much but the overall winner for us has been Ella’s Kitchen – not only is the range amazing but the options in meals will make the transition from chunky puree to food really easy.

The biggest hits for us are;

  • Spag Bol
  • Vegetable Risotto
  • Cauliflower Cheese
  • Macaroni Cheese
  • Melty sticks

Keeping on top of what to buy and what your baby likes is just another thing added to our already over-laden plates – I’ve created a nifty little template that you can print out and update according to what your little one is eating, liking and spitting out from one day to the next. Drop me an email if you would like a copy and I’ll send it on over!

Learning to eat can be a messy business – we have a packet of wet wipes at the ready at all times. The finger food is great because Alex can experience feeding himself and get used to the sensation of chewing even if he doesn’t have any teeth yet!

We haven’t dictated any specific diet with Alex, just that he gets acquainted with as many tastes and textures as possible. I always had this grand plan to spend Sundays making homemade puree for him – it never happened. I considered baby led weaning – it never happened. My point is just do what feels right for you and your baby, at the end of the day unless you’re feeding them chocolate milkshakes and teaspoons of peanut butter as a staple then you’re probably doing better than you think you are!

Don’t forget to drop me an email if you’d like your own food chart for your baby!
